Fire Inspection & Maintenance
When It Comes to Fire Inspections, a Local Contractor Makes All the Difference
An annual fire inspection is a deadline, a technician, a test report, and a piece of paper your insurance carrier and fire marshal both want to see. National providers scatter those pieces across a call center, a scheduling queue, and whichever subcontractor is free that week. Desert Alarm is located in Palm Desert and serves the entire Coachella Valley, which means the same team that knows your building handles the test, writes the report, and comes back to fix whatever the test turns up.
- We schedule the inspection, certify the system, and send documentation to your carrier
- Both CSLB C-10 and C-7 licenses for the full electrical and low-voltage scope, in-house
- ZERO subcontractors — all employees work for Desert Alarm
- FBI background checks mandatory for ALL employees

A Fire System Is Only Compliant If Someone Proves It Every Year
California does not treat fire protection as install-it-and-forget-it. Under Title 19 of the California Code of Regulations, every fire alarm system, detection system, and extinguishing system has to be kept in operable condition at all times — and you have to be able to show it. That proof is what an annual inspection produces, and it's the part most building owners are chasing at the worst possible moment.
- We track the deadline so your facility manager doesn't have to:
California puts the recordkeeping obligation on the building or system owner, not on the contractor, so a missed date is your problem even when someone else does the work. We put your building on a schedule, call you before it comes due, and show up.
- Your paperwork goes where it's supposed to go:
We certify the system and send the report directly to your insurance carrier. California also requires those records to be kept on site for five years after the next required inspection, so we give you a copy for your file.
- Deficiencies get corrected by the same people who found them:
California requires the owner to promptly correct deficiencies, damaged parts, and impairments found during inspection, which means a test that turns up a drifted smoke detector, a weak backup battery, or a communication path that no longer reaches the central station starts a clock. We're licensed to do the repair, not just write it up.

Fire Inspection and Maintenance Frequently Asked Questions
How often does my commercial fire alarm system have to be inspected?
Fire alarm systems are inspected and tested on the schedule set by NFPA 72, which combines visual inspections at shorter intervals with a full functional test of the system annually. That annual test produces the record of inspection and testing your authority having jurisdiction reviews. Your local authority having jurisdiction or your insurance carrier may require more frequent testing than the code minimum, so we confirm your building's requirements before we build your schedule.
What happens if I miss an inspection or a system fails the test?
When an inspector documents a deficiency, you get a correction deadline and a re-inspection. The practical risk usually shows up sooner than that — a lapsed certificate can hold up an insurance renewal or a tenant improvement sign-off. Because we hold both the C-10 and C-7 licenses, we can correct most deficiencies without bringing in a second contractor.
Will you inspect a system your company didn't install?
Yes. We take over existing fire alarm systems regularly, whatever brand is on the panel. We'll test what's there, document its actual condition, tell you plainly what's serviceable and what's at end of life, and bring the system onto our inspection schedule and, if you want it, our monitoring. You do not have to replace a working system to change who maintains it.
What about my sprinklers, kitchen hood system, and extinguishers?
Those run on different clocks than your fire alarm. Water-based systems like sprinklers and standpipes follow NFPA 25 frequencies, and engineered and pre-engineered extinguishing systems — including kitchen hood suppression — must be inspected, tested, and maintained at least semi-annually and immediately after any activation. We'll map every system in your building to its required interval so nothing is quietly out of date.
Did California's fire code change recently?
Yes. The 2025 California Building Standards Code, which includes Part 9, the California Fire Code, took effect January 1, 2026. Inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements apply to existing systems regardless of when your system was installed, so a building that passed comfortably a few years ago can turn up new deficiencies. If it's been a while since anyone looked at your system with the current code in hand, that's worth a conversation.
