When It Comes to Commercial Fire Alarms, a Local Contractor Makes All the Difference

A fire alarm project touches your architect, your fire marshal, your insurance carrier, and your certificate of occupancy. National companies hand those pieces off to whoever happens to be available that week. We don't. Desert Alarm is located in Palm Desert and serves the entire Coachella Valley, which means the person who designs your system is the person who walks it with the fire marshal and the person who comes back next year to inspect it.

  • Both CSLB C-10 and C-7 licenses — the full electrical and low-voltage scope
  • We submit plans, work the AHJ corrections, and stand with you at fire marshal testing
  • ZERO subcontractors — all employees work for Desert Alarm
  • FBI background checks mandatory for ALL employees

A Fire Alarm System Built Around Your Building, Not a Catalog

Panel type, device layout, and notification design should come from your building and your insurance requirements, not off the shelf. Desert Alarm engineers every commercial system from scratch, then ties it into 24/7 local monitoring so a signal reaches a real person instead of a queue.

  • Fires in commercial buildings are expensive events:

NFPA recorded about 119,500 non-residential structure fires in the U.S. in 2024, accounting for roughly $3.6 billion in direct property damage.

  • Your system is designed to code from day one:

We engineer to NFPA 72, the national fire alarm standard California enforces, so your system clears inspection instead of collecting correction notices.

  • California requires annual inspection, and we handle it for you:

Under the California Fire Code and Title 19, your system must be inspected and tested yearly. We schedule it, certify it, and send documentation straight to your insurer.

  • Already have a panel? We can take it over:

If there's an existing system in your building, we evaluate what's serviceable, take over monitoring and inspection, and bring it current instead of starting over.

Commercial Fire Alarm Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does a commercial fire alarm system include?

A commercial fire alarm system includes a control panel, initiating devices that detect a fire, notification appliances that alert occupants, and a communicator that transmits the signal off-site. Initiating devices cover smoke detectors, heat detectors, duct detectors, manual pull stations, and sprinkler flow or tamper switches. What your building actually requires depends on occupancy type, square footage, and what your insurance carrier and local fire authority call for.

How often does California require my fire alarm system to be inspected?

California requires your fire alarm system to be inspected and tested at least annually. The California Fire Code and Title 19 of the California Code of Regulations adopt NFPA 72 as the governing standard, and your records have to be available when the fire authority asks for them. Desert Alarm schedules the inspection, certifies the system, and sends the documentation directly to your insurance company, so there's no heavy lifting on your end.

Can you take over the fire alarm system already in my building?

Yes, we can take over an existing fire alarm system in most cases. We evaluate the panel and devices, tell you plainly what's serviceable and what isn't, and assume monitoring and annual inspection from there. Businesses signing a new lease or buying a building with a panel already installed do this with us regularly.

Does my commercial fire alarm system have to be monitored?

In most commercial occupancies, yes (and your insurance carrier will typically require it in writing regardless of code). Desert Alarm monitors through an Underwriters Laboratories (UL)-listed central station where real people answer, and we're open 365 days a year, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Who handles the permits and the fire marshal inspection?

Desert Alarm handles the permits and the fire marshal inspection from start to finish. We lay out the system, submit plans to your local authority having jurisdiction, rework and resubmit if corrections come back, install after sign-off, and run testing with the fire marshal through your certificate of occupancy. You're not chasing agencies or coordinating contractors; that's our job. Learn more about our full fire and life safety division.
