Home Security Service in Palm Springs

Security You Can Put a Face To — Right Here in the Valley Since 1991

Palm Springs homes are built to be open. Walls of glass, sliding doors onto the patio, detached casitas, and neighborhoods where the street is the only thing between you and the front door. That’s the architecture people move here for, and it’s exactly why the security system needs to be designed for the house instead of pulled off a shelf. Desert Alarm has been designing them for Coachella Valley homeowners since 1991 — from our own office in Palm Desert, with our own technicians, our own monitoring, and our own patrol fleet.

Open 365 days a year — nights, weekends & holidays. We never close.

Palm Springs, CA

Why Palm Springs Homeowners Choose a Local Company

We’re about 15 miles down Highway 111 from downtown Palm Springs. That distance is the whole argument. When a national provider takes your call, it goes to a call center in another state and an appointment goes on a queue. When you call us, someone in Palm Desert picks up, and a technician who works for Desert Alarm — not a subcontractor — is usually on your street the same day.

  • A permit-ready install: Palm Springs requires an alarm user’s permit for every monitored system in the city. We walk you through the application so your system is registered before it’s ever armed.
  • Our own patrol fleet: Desert Alarm is the only security company in the Valley running 24/7 monitoring alongside a licensed private patrol operation. Nobody else in Palm Springs can dispatch their own officer to your door.
  • Built for part-time residents: Nearly half of our residential customers are in the Valley six months a year or less. Remote arming, temperature and water alerts, and a real person watching the house while you’re gone are standard here, not upgrades.

How It Works

Our Base Security Package is FREE

Good security should not cost you a fortune to get started. Desert Alarm begins with a free base package, then lets you add only what your home actually needs.

  • A free base system to start:

Your base package includes a 2Gig touchless keypad with a backup battery and a built-in siren, three sensors, and a motion detector. No setup or activation fee.

  • Built around your home:

We design the system to fit how you live, adding cameras, smart locks, gate access, and more, so you pay for what matters to you.

  • One system for the entire home:

The 2Gig touch panel ties your security and automation together in one place, which is a big reason customers stay with us for years.

Alarm Response

24/7 Alarm Response: The Peace of Mind You’re Looking For

Desert Alarm is the only security company in the Valley that combines 24/7 alarm monitoring with a dedicated patrol fleet. This is local service at its best: convenient, responsive, and personalized to you.

  • On-Site Verification: We dispatch our own patrol team immediately to your property to thoroughly inspect the perimeter.
  • Real-Time Updates & Media: We will document the scene, take photos, and can even FaceTime you directly so you can see your property in real time.
  • Emergency Resolution: If you are out of town and we discover an issue—such as a broken window—our team will secure the property immediately and contact the local authorities on your behalf.

Your Questions, Answered

Do I need an alarm permit in Palm Springs?

Yes. Palm Springs has required an annual alarm user’s permit for monitored burglary and robbery alarms since Ordinance 1430 took effect in 1993, and a separate permit is required for each system. The permit currently costs $33, with a $29 annual renewal. A new permit is also required any time the alarm system changes ownership, which catches a lot of people who buy a home with a system already installed. We help our Palm Springs customers get registered as part of the install.

What happens if my alarm goes off by accident?

Permitted alarm users get one free false alarm response in any 365-day period. After that, the city charges a civil penalty of $150 for the second, $200 for the third, and $250 for the fourth and each one after. Palm Springs also offers an online Alarm Diversion School that can waive the fee for a second false alarm. The better answer is not triggering the fee at all — our patrol officer responds and verifies what’s actually happening before police are dispatched.

Can you secure a Palm Springs vacation rental?

Yes, and this is a specialty here. Palm Springs runs one of the most structured short-term rental programs in California, including a 20% vacation rental cap per organized neighborhood, a limit of 26 rental contracts per calendar year for standard certificate holders, and a requirement that every property have a designated 24/7 local contact. We build systems around that reality: coded entry that changes between guests, exterior cameras, gate and door access control, and remote management from your phone whether you’re in Los Angeles or overseas.

How quickly can someone get to my house?

We’re centrally located in Palm Desert, and our technicians are typically on the road within about 20 minutes of dispatch. Our standard is a response within 24 hours for service calls and repairs, and true emergencies are usually handled the same day.

I’m only in Palm Springs part of the year. What should I have?

Our Pre-Travel Security Check exists for exactly this. Before you leave, we verify every sensor, smoke detector, and thermostat tied to your system, confirm clean communication with the central station, and re-teach you the features you’re already paying for. Pair it with our patrol alarm response — $20 a month for monitoring customers — and someone local physically checks the property when something trips.
